Kelly Hood, DVM — Veterinary Reviewer
Dr. Kelly Hood took an unusual road to veterinary medicine. Raised in New Jersey, she began her career in the music industry, working in public relations and journalism in New York City and Nashville. A move to Florida changed her course. A job as a kennel technician showed her what she really wanted to do, and she volunteered at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center while returning to school for pre-veterinary studies at the University of Central Florida.
She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2019. As a veterinary student she received the 2018 Walkin' Pets Veterinarian Scholarship and joined mission trips providing veterinary care in the Navajo Nation in New Mexico and Arizona and the Cherokee Nation in North Carolina.
Today she practices small animal medicine in Virginia's Hampton Roads region, splitting her time between general practice and urgent care. She has a special interest in pain management, skin care (dermatology) and dental health for pets.
