The K-9 III Variable draws 18 amps and requires a dedicated 20-amp circuit — it’s not made for a standard 15-amp GFCI outlet. Start low and bring the dial up to avoid a start-up amperage spike. For ordinary household wiring, look to the 15-amp K-9 I, Mini, or Fluffer.
Here’s what surprises most first-time buyers: a K-9 dryer has no heating element. The warmth you feel comes from the motors themselves as they run; unlike a human hair dryer, there’s no hot coil heating the air. It’s high-velocity airflow, not heat, that does the real work: it pushes water out of the coat and lifts loose undercoat for fast drying and easy de-shedding, while keeping hair from drifting all over your home. As with any dryer, keep the airflow moving, keep it away from the face, eyes and ears, and pause if your pet seems uncomfortable.
The K-9 line is built from fabricated metal for years of real use, and it can be wall-mounted to keep it up and out of the way in your grooming station or garage. Maintenance is simple. The manufacturer says to rinse both air-intake filters and let them dry after every use, and to replace the carbon motor brushes once 50–75% of each brush has worn away; waiting longer can damage the motor. A drop in power is a common sign the filter or brushes need attention.
Electric Cleaner Company also makes optional add-ons: the K-9 Comfort Sleeve (protects your hand and arm from a warm hose, and shields the hose from bites and scratches), a car-style Heavy Duty Filter, the K-9 Muffler (for the exhaust), a 15’ hose, and a wall-mount bracket. Each K-9 III Variable ships with a flexible 10’ hose, two snap-on air-intake filters, a flat blower tip, a round blower tip, and an owner’s manual. This model is 120V for U.S. outlets; the manufacturer does not make it in a 220V version.
