How Do You Dry a Rough Collie After a Bath?
- Rake the coat out dry, before the water. Every handful of dead undercoat you remove first is undercoat that will not sit in there holding water afterwards. On a Collie this step saves more drying time than anything else you can do.
- Rinse the mane twice. Shampoo hides in that frill, and residue left in a dense undercoat is a common cause of itching that gets blamed on food or allergies.
- Squeeze, do not rub. Work down the coat with the towel closing on it rather than dragging across it. Rubbing a long coat makes tangles you then have to comb out.
- Start at the mane, not the back. It is the thickest, slowest section, so give it the airflow while you still have patience for it. Everything else dries faster than you expect once the frill is done.
