This is the machine serious groomers build their day around: maximum output when you need to move water and undercoat fast, and feather-fine control when you’re finishing a show coat or settling a nervous dog.
Built for the widest range of work — thick double-coats at full power, delicate puppies and detail finishing at the low end of the dial. If you don’t need variable control, the standard K-9 III delivers the same power with two-speed toggles at a lower price.

The K-9 III Variable draws 18 amps and requires a dedicated 20-amp circuit — it’s not made for a standard 15-amp GFCI outlet. Start low and bring the dial up to avoid a start-up amperage spike. For ordinary household wiring, look to the 15-amp K-9 I, Mini, or Fluffer.
Here’s what surprises most first-time buyers: a K-9 dryer has no heating element. The gentle warmth you feel comes from the motors themselves as they run, so the air is warm but never scorching — the temperature is naturally moderated to protect your dog’s skin and coat. It’s high-velocity airflow, not heat, that does the real work: it pushes water out of the coat and lifts loose undercoat for fast drying and easy de-shedding, while keeping hair from drifting all over your home. Because there’s no hot element, there’s no risk of overheating or singeing, even on long sessions.
Cheap plastic dryers overheat, melt, and fail within months. The K-9 line is built from fabricated metal to survive years of real use, and it can be wall-mounted to keep it up and out of the way in your grooming station or garage. Maintenance is simple: rinse or vacuum the two filters regularly (more often in a busy shop), and replace the carbon motor brushes roughly every 9–12 months under heavy daily use. If you ever notice reduced power, extra heat, or black soot from the hose, that’s your cue the brushes need changing.
Want it even quieter or more comfortable? Optional add-ons include the K-9 Comfort Sleeve (protects your hand and arm from a warm hose, and shields the hose from bites and scratches), a car-style Heavy Duty Filter, the K-9 Muffler for lower noise, a 15’ hose, and a wall-mount bracket.
Each K-9 III Variable ships with a flexible 10’ hose, two snap-on air-intake filters, a flat blower tip, a round blower tip, and an owner’s manual. Plus worldwide compatibility: a 220V version is available outside the USA, and the line is CSA, CE, and Australian approved.
Yes — it combines the most powerful K-9 motors with a 1–100% variable dial, the most capable and flexible dryer we offer.
Yes, like all dual-motor K-9 dryers. The single-motor Mini and Fluffer and the dual-motor K-9 I run on a standard 15-amp outlet.
No. The warmth comes from the motors as they run, so the air is warm but never hot — coat-safe by design.
Yes. Many cats do great with a K-9 dryer — on a dual-motor model you may only need one motor, and on a variable model simply dial the airflow down.
