The effectiveness of traditional T-Shaped Rakes
Rakes are designed to pull out dead coat and shedding fur with ease. The T-shape designed top bar is long, up to 6 inches across. The teeth are long, sinking deeply into heavy, long coats. Rotating pins are extremely gentle to thick coated breeds, protecting the undercoat from damage while gently lifting out loose hair. Vets recommend rotating tooth tools for effective humane daily grooming. This type of rake is designed to remove dead coat while not damaging the healthy coat. You work the tool in the natural direction of the coat growth. Care must be used not to sink the comb too far into a dense coat repeatedly with too much pressure. Used correctly, rakes can be highly efficient for removing dead coat or “lint” from rustic-coated breeds. They are used primarily on double-coated, heavy-coated, or rustic-coated dogs.
THE UNTANGLER STORY
Inventor Ron Owen of Steven Plastics, Inc. developed and patented the original rotating tooth comb for gentle humane grooming and for the love of pets. Ron noticed that his dog Wilson would ‘flinch’ and pull away every time he brushed out its matted hair. He noticed that pet hair was snagging and wrapping around the fixed pin and pulling on the undercoat causing Wilson, to snarl and groan. As a talented inventor and problem solver, Ron decided to build a new kind of comb that would allow the pins to rotate so that pet hair would not cling and pull on the dogs skin. After many prototypes, he successfully designed a honeycomb spine which allowed each pin to independently rotate 360 degrees while moving up and down. The constant pin rotation significantly reduced the pulling force on pet hair and skin and prevented grooming pain. He tested out the new Comb and Brush on Wilson, and Wilson no longer resented grooming.
